Well,
on the homefront, I am now getting ready to fight my
homeowner's
insurance company. We had terrible roof, ceiling
and
even wall damage from three storms in two weeks time,
along
with the lightning damage I decided not to make a claim
on. The
deductible would have been about equal to the amount
of the
settlement for the lightning damage so I dropped that
one and
now the company has made an offer that is even less
than
just the cost of the materials to fix the damage and
I would
have to pay a contractor to do the work with not
enough
to even buy the materials! I do understand that they
are in
business to make money but it is increasingly sad
that we
make our payments and jump through THEIR hoops and
do what
they say we must do and still have to fight for a
fair
deal on our end.
But ...
we also have some happy ??? news, lol.
My 14
year old daughter's 10 month old puppy, Muffin,
had
SEVEN puppies last night, right before midnight.
So now,
Shannon is a Grandma and I am a Great-Grandma.
I heard
the yelping and whining at around 11:30pm
and
thought "oops, she is about READY to have them",
got
dressed and went out to the huge mansion doghouse
that
Muffin lives in and BOOM! they were already there
and the
whining was because she could not reach one of
them
with the rest snuggled up, lol. Poor thing was as
wide as
she is tall and I felt last week and thought she
had
three BIG puppies, you could have knocked me over
with a
puppy tail when I started counting!
The
Daddy is a mixed breed from down the street and Mommy
is
Chow, German Shephard, Lab and Rottweiler so the puppies
are a
real Heinz 57 mix.

Communication
Recipe
It
seems so basic a process but so many online business people
seem
unable to communicate via emails that it makes me wonder
how
they survive in the "real world" at all.
Maybe
it is a *generational* thing but I do not really think so
because
I meet as many young people with manners and older
people
who are rude and obnoxious as the reverse.
People
will cuss you out or get irate and ugly in a way they
would
never do in person and the saddest thing of all is that
this is
accepted behavior to so many! Why? Is it because we are
more
anonomous behind our computer keyboards than in a one-on-
one
meeting? I refuse to accept the idea that our professional
demeanor
is any less important if we work on the net than in
any
method of business.
One of
the things I see a lot of as an ezine editor is article
submissions
that start out with the sender telling me what a
favor
he or she is doing me by allowing me the *privilege* of
being
the lucky winner of said article along with a long list
of
guidelines I am to follow to use this submission. The best
ones
say "Dear Editor of Some Ezine"!
Is it
so much trouble to at least find out my name and the name
of my
ezine to get the exposure my running the article will
bring?
I submit my articles to both friends and stranger editors
but I
would make sure to use their name or at least ezine name.
And I
have my own guidelines for articles I run so either asking
me for
them or stating in the submission that the sender hopes
the
article meets MY guidelines and giving me a way to let her
or him
know if changes need to be made would be appreciated.
And I
am not impressed, actually, by being told that your
article
has been run in 50,000 other ezines and you are
considered
the internet's top expert in your field. Telling me
that my
readers are sure to find your masterpiece to be the best
thing
they have ever read will usually make my delete key go
crazy.
I have gladly and proudly printed a lot of content from
newbies
or unknowns because of the way they asked me for
consideration
and thanked me ahead of time for the chance to be
HONORED
by having their work in my excellent ezine! I prefer to
use as
much origial content as possible so the fact that every
other
ezine in marketing circles has already run it will usually
make me
less eager to run it too.
There
is an automatic unsubscribe link on the bottom of all
issues
of Rim digest and all solo ads. There is also an
unsubscribe
mailto link for those that refuse to use the auto
link.
Why would anyone need to write me and cuss me out to be
removed
when they had not even tried the links first? Most of
the
time I can click the link when they hit "reply" and send
the
whole issue or solo ad back to me and it goes right to the
script
and removes them.
People
get mad at editors because they subscribed with one
address
and try to unsubscribe another and wonder why we
cannot
find them. As of today, July 28, 2002- there are almost
30,000
addresses in the database for Rim digest ezine. There is
no way
I can search through all of those names and hope to find
ONE.
Especially when BillyBob@nowhere.com tries to unsubscribe
WilliamRobert@somewhere.com.
It is impossible so if you do not
know
for sure WHICH of your many addresses is listed take
advantage
of the removal link that goes right TO the
optinlightning
site!
Lately
I have had readers hit the addresses for reaching me to
either
unsubscribe but to the ads, feedback, etc. address or to
send me
their offers! Why anyone thinks spamming the
bounces@rimdigest.com
address is going to make them sales or get
them
signups is beyond me but I get as much mail to the wrong
address
as to the right one! This address even supposedly even
subscribes
to other ezines and safe lists! Between spammers and
scammers
I can barely get to my REAL mail.
I try
to remember to always deal with everyone I come into
contact
with in the way I hope they will deal with me. "Please",
"thank
you", " I am sorry", etc. do not take that long to add to
a
correspondence but can make a world of difference. Asking
nicely
to be unsubscribed does not always make it happen but it
will
more often than not and being mean & ugly shows your lack
of
professionalism but usually does little else. Being friendly
and
polite will always get you further than being the opposite
and
actually feels a lot better! It may be a temporary stress
reliever
but will not last and the feeling you can get from
being
nice goes on and on.
Such a
little thing can make such a huge difference in your
mood,
the mood of all you come into contact with and get you
at
least a step further down the road to success!

Positive
Quotes
I am
convinced that the world is not a mere bog in which men and
women
trample themselves and die. Something magnificent is taking
place
here amidst the cruelties and tragedies, and the supreme
challenge
to intelligence is that of making the noblest and best
in our
curious heritage prevail.
-- C.A.
Beard

There
is nothing noble in being superior to some other man.
The
true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.

Hindu proverb

Feedback
Hi Jan,
Thank
you for this great featured article.
I would
apreciate it for you to furnish me a name or two,
or
several names of ghost writers that do articles for $3 to $10.
Jay
>>
hello, Jay
glad
you liked the article. I do not personally know any ghost
writers,
I get these articles FROM article drive as the resource
box
listed under them. I suggest that you join article drive for
free,
get some good ones there and maybe ask them if they can
recommend
some ghost writers.
