Rim Digest Reader Feedback
Dear Jan, IT'S BECAUSE OF YOU THAT I DON'T PUBLISH A NEWSLETTER!
When I first started on the net, I was sure that I wanted to publish a newsletter.
I wanted to be in control. I wanted to be in charge of ads, articles, and everything
else that goes with it. I knew that I needed to study what others were doing so I
began subscribing to a lot of ezines.
And started reading, reading, reading, and taking notes, and saving, and saving, and saving.
All kinds of stuff about what it takes to publish a newsletter.
Somehow, one of the ezines that I subscribed to was Rim Digest.
It was about the time that you first took it over.
Well, then I started reading what you were experiencing as
you learned what it was really all about.
A person who was very honest and just came right out and told everyone what was
going on with you and your very new experience of publishing an ezine.
The more I read about your experiences, the more I realized that I don't have what it takes.
It really gets to me when Bernadette Rose (my computer) freezes, crashes, and turns blue in the face.8>)
So how could I possibly handle hardware failure, software problems, ads being sent every
way except right, the ones who subscribe, get the free ad, unsubscribe, then do it all over again?
Or the people who can't figure out how to use the delete button, or the ones who keep replying to unsub, or whatever,
when there's a list of contact addresses as long as my arm.
I could go on and on but this is already much longer than I intended it to be.
You are the reason that I've never tried to publish an ezine.
And I thank you for it! Because if you had not have been so honest and so very vocal
about what you were and are going through, I might have made a very big mistake.
Again, I thank you, and I think you're a very fantastic person. That's my opinion,
but it's the only one I have. I think George is a very lucky man.8>)
So hang in there, and keep on keepin' on. Your biggest fan, Jimmie
Hello Jan -You certainly have a gift for making people feel great. Thanks again for using my articles.
Have a wonderful weekend and a truly fabulous life! Robert
Hi, please consider my latest article for publication in your great newsletter (there's
always something of interest in it if me...unlike a lot of the stuff I get in my mailbox ;-)
Thanks for your time and consideration. Rod
Jan, Great articles in this issue, BOTH of them! I'm in the process of trying to set
up a website for marketing ebooks and, boy, is it a daunting task for a newbie! I'm trying
to find the domain name that I can live with, that isn't already taken, but that is suitable for my website-to-be,
and will remain so if I change my page.
I've invested in the Newbie Website Builder and am going thru it now and it is amazing
the things I need to do to get going! I'm working on my ad copy now for the ebooks
I want to sell and for the free ebooks too.
Your newsletter is full of all kinds of info that I can use. Thank you. Peg
Dear Jan: As always thanks for such a GREAT Ezine - I LOVE Rim Digest !!!!!
Thanks again, and remember YOU are my inspiration. Sincerely, Toni
Hi Jan, Another fine issue as always. Glad to see you put in an ad for my book!
Steve
Hello Jan, I read your newsletter and consider it as one of the finest.
Saw your note about AutoLink Pro.
AutoLink will automatically submit 60 pages at least 4 times a week and you can now manually
submit 70 pages per day. I've been a faithful user of AutoLink for over 3 years and it
does in fact bring traffic to my sites. Cheers! Tony T
Thanks Jan for the "super sweet" mention in RIM!! ;-) Take care, Terri S
Hi Jan:I guess I won't be sending you that $20 since you won't know what it is for
anyways. Read your article and it put a smile on my face. Haven't been back into
the web design business that long and already clients think I am a mind reader.
Talk to you later. Say hi to George. Dave
Hi Jan. This is Margo I have had terrible problems with my e-mail account at
xxx.com. They were doing an upgrade and I lost many of my subscriptions due to full
mailbox,or unknown user messages sent to publishers. I am having to re-subscribe
to many of my favorites, one of which is Rim Digest.
I have transferred most of my business and ezine stuff out of there and am now
re-subscribing to my 'lost' ezines. Please re-subscribe me at this address.
Thanks Jan,I have missed you and your words of wisdom.
Jan, I'm a marketing consultant for a web solutions business. I've checked out
a number of e-zines for promotional tips. Just a peek inside Rim Digest has provided
my company with a number of helpful hints. Our business has really started to take
off, and I just want to give credit where credit is due! Andrea
Hi Jan: read your article. Congratulations. The effort hthat you have put
into your ezine must have made those words you are eating taste mighty good. Dave
Hi Jan, Thanks for using the article and I understand about the viruses. I will
send it to you on Sunday. Jerry P.S. I had to get a laugh at the guy who placed the ad and blamed the
subscribers for the lack of results. I think you have a very good ezine and I
like the personal touch in your ezines.
Hi Jan I read with something akin to morbid fascination, your disgruntled Solo Ad
client's "feedback" in the recent Rim Issue #208. Such whining! Such ill-formed
conclusions! Such wild accusations! Such bad spelling! Makes one wonder
HOW this person's ad FAILED to attract positive response?! ;)
As a Consultant for an Internet-based lifestyle program, I'm ever appreciative of good
communication skills. Your courteous and well-constructed reply does you great credit.
What a refreshing contrast in professionalism and maturity! Bravo, Jan!
One of your "freeloading", "highly suspect", "lousy" and VERY SATISFIED subscribers...

Hi Jan - had to let you know how much I liked this last issue (#210 July 26)
of Rim. Your second featured article, "The 5 Most Common Misunderstandings
About E-books" is a keeper, full of links to some pretty impressive sites!
Thanks for all you do - your subscribe are the best only because the publisher cares so much.
Your Pal, Les
Dear Jan, Need to contact me?...... I like that! Boy, it's right out there
in front! Kinda grabs you as you walk, well, okay then, scroll by. 8>)
I saw that and got to thinking. Now, if you knew me, you'd know that thinking is
something that I do alot of. I'm always thinking. Now, what I'm thinking is,
if that "Need to contact me?" line is so noticeable to me and "grabs me", why are there
so many readers who seem to miss it entirely? Hmmm. Just wondering while I was
just thinking. 8>) Your Self-professed {{{{{{BIGGEST}}}}}} Fan! Jimmie
I enjoy the Rim. Thanks for including the reminder about the full screen. Dan
Hi Jan! After reading your article re eliminating the free ads......I could see
your frustrations. Although I don't do any publishing, I can certainly see how much
work goes into it. I would love to do something but time is a "biggie" for me.
And managing all those ads and coming up with fresh content has stopped me in my tracks!
I admire your stamina and respect your decision.
And finally....ask your husband for a BIG hug. I think you need one. :-)
You are doing a good job & don't let the negative comments get to ya. There will
always be people who look at the "glass" as being half empty! One of your loyal
subscribers, Nancy
Hi Jan, First of all let me say how much I look forward to my rim digest, you do a
superb job! I have learned (the hard way) to be skeptical on the internet.
I know I can always trust you. Keep up the good work. I hope I'm not out of
line here, I guess the thing is I feel like I know you personally because of your gift
of making people feel like a personal friend. Cheryl
Hi Jan, Just wanted to say I could relate to your article today....ssssssssooooooooo true!...but
tell me this, what is inside that makes us do that extra edition....? Best Regards Ian
I GIVE UP! by Jan Tallent Aspiring Warrioress and Publisher
Jan, Ok! Now I do not feel so bad!! Thanks for printing that article!!
We all need to see that we are not the only ones feeling this way! I actually printed
the article and it is in my office for me to refer to when I think I am the only one thinking
about giving up! Thanks so much!! (Glad you didn't actually give up!!:-) ~~~~~~~~
Heidi
Hello Jan -Wow. You had a lot to get out of your system. I must agree that
publishing an ezine can be one of the most rewarding (and at the same time most frustrating) things
one can do.
Happy to note you decided to hang in there for a little while longer (don't know how I
would get along without your occasional cliff-hangers).
Have a terrific day and truly rewarding life! Robert
Oh Jan... lmao, your article "I GIVE UP!!!! was a classic. You gotta get that
one framed. I hear ya talkin.. I sympathise with your woes :-) My business is
moving forward, but even the people I love or should I say that love me think I sit on my
but all day and play on my computer.. This is the hardest work I have ever done...
(and I was a custom bike and car spray painter for 12 years...show stuff).. Our line of
work can be quite demanding at times.. Anyway.. I'm not gonna whinge. (you did it for
me lol) so now that you said what I need to say sometimes (confused??? :-)
I'm outa here. More Power To Ya Jan!! ;-) Rob
Hi Jan, Your article says it for a lot of us, last year and this year also.
Looked at your web site, very nice site. I am looking for things I can
resell for 100% for my homebased-wealth site. Well I know you are busy.
Have a great day. Thanks, Vern
Dear Jan, I just read your digest and saw my Ad. thanks for publishing
it. I reallly enjoyed reading your Digest and found a lot of useful information
and Ads. Keep up the good work. I wish you success and the best of everything
in life. thanks once again. Your online friend. Norbert
Hi Jan, I just got a chance to read "I GIVE UP!". I just have one question, "are we having fun, yet"?
Keep up the good work, I do enjoy the newsletter. Sincerely, Roger
Dear Jan, After reading the comments from: "Former and Future Subscriber,
Karen", I just wanted to say that I can identify with part of what she says.
There have been times when I was getting so many ezines that I
was overwhelmed at the number of them, so I also had to
unsubscribe to some of them.
However, there are some that are special to me, and I won't
unsubscribe from them.
So, I've had to do "selective deleting" for a period of time. I
would just go down the line, checking them off and deleting
them, without even thinking about it.
Later, when things had "settled down", I started reading them
again. This way, there's not all the ubsubscribing and
resubscribing to do.
Trust me, RIM has *never* been in the "selective deleting"
category. Or the "unread" category, either. Just my 2 cents.
Your "BIGGEST" 8>) Fan, Jimmie
Jan, I really like what you are doing with the newbies newsletter and the RIM site.
My compliments. May I ask how much time you put in each week on your various sites?
I'm just starting out and feel like I'm more swamped than I can handle sometimes.
And may I offer a tiny suggestion? On your RIM home page (http://www.rimdigest.com),
in the second sentence, you might want to consider writing opt-in with a hyphen instead of
"optin". When I first read this, I thought you had misspelled "option".
Just a bit confusing. Thanks! Chris D
Jan, I'm writing you in response to you're Feature Article Focus versus Affiliate Overload.
I applaud your down to earth style of personable writing. I digest a tremendous amount
of material every day and notice communication that lacks the human element.
I am a single parent of four, live in a Stone farm house built in 1894, have a son who
requires learning support ( what a battle with getting school cooperation! ).
Have recently begun restructuring my affiliate commitments. Keep Up The Good Work!
JIM
Hi Jan, Just a rather longggg note to let you know that I re-subscribed to your
ezine using this email address as I am having problems with my email at yyy.com..
Sorry to make this message so long, but I guess what I am suggesting is
that maybe in one of your ezines, you could cover the subjects of:
autoresponders (benefits and abuses) resolving problems so that the client
and provider are left with a smile on their faces, and that bounces of emails
are sometimes completely out of the subscribers control and can be due to
email provider system gliches rather than subscribers neglect and abuse
or trying to play games with the email sender.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I am glad to have your ezine back in my life.
Best wishes! Faye
Hi Jan, Just read the latest Rim; good job as always. You
did a really great job presenting the package deal. Steve
Dear Jan, I've been reading the Rim Digest ezine for a few months now (since I
originally placed an ad), and believe I have an article that might interest
you and your readers. Since it's very short (less than 370 words) I've
enclosed it herein, using plain text, and would be honored to have it run in
Rim Digest. I hope you will consider my work. If you should wish to publish
it, I hope you will include the small "source box" with my contact
information. Thanks so much, and feel free to contact me if you need further
information. The piece follows this letter. Sincerely and respectfully,
Kathy
Hi Jan! I just read your ezine. You poor thing! I sure know how it
feels to be 'taken' .... it's not easy is it?
I'm about ready to pull my hair out as well. My site is down completely!
Waiting to be moved to my new host.
Sometimes I wonder why we do it. But I'm very addicted and would be at a total
loss if I didn't...LOL!!!
Keep your chin up and if you need someone to talk to, my door... I mean my email inbox is
always open!!!
Sending you a great big hug!! Eileen
May I please have your permission to print your "Hang In There" article
in my next issue??????
PLEASE, PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE????? Send me a credit box!!!!!!
Your #1 Fan *absent but assuredly muddled *gag* business blues* ROTFLOL Amy
Hi Jan, You wrote in Rim today:
Each unsubscribe still feels like a personal insult, even though I realize that is being
thin-skinned and silly, especially when only ONE subscriber in 15 months has been ugly
and insulting about me OR my publishing and anyone who read his illiterate and ill-mannered
messages to me knows why I do not feel even a teeny loss getting rid of this "person".
I know exactly how you feel here Jan,but that is not the reason for this mail.
I'm interested in your illiterate and ill-mannered unsubscriber.
I recently had someone rake me over the coals for allowing an ad-stealer to subscribe
to my ezine. Not only that but he raised holy hell with the subscriber.
His messages were filthy, and illiterate...No punctuation, mispelled words..etc.
He claimed he had written the ad. I recognized the ad as a generic one that comes
with an info product, so I knew he hadn't written it and I called him on it.
I won't go into detail here..but it was a mess.
Any way Jan...before I ramble to much,I just have to ask if your illiterate subscriber's
first name was __________,and if he was from ___________.
You don't have to answer if you don't want to...I am just curious.
Meanwhile Jan,hang in there gal...we all make mistakes, even getting ourselves scammed
once in a while. And I also have been accused of spam...three times mind you,and yes
it hurts, it hurts bad.
I too feel like giving up, have dreaded turning on my puter and all those same things
you mention in your article...You definately are not alone, but it sure feels like it doesn't it?
It wouldn't be so bad if we didn't care so much. Care about our subscribers, our
businesses, and our friends and family.
Take care Jan, Margo
Hi Jan, Nice article. I think you spoke for all of us who publish a newsletter.
Thanks, Vern
Hi Jan: Could you send me today's issue. Your issue was sandwiched in between two
emails I knew I didn't even want to read and I deleted your issue along with them.
Hey maybe there is an article in that great maneuver.
After completing a big web design project I spent a couple of hours on
solitaire. Thought of George. Tell him I said hi.
Later, Dave
Hi Jan,I thoroughly enjoyed the editorial in your recent issue. I know exactly what you mean!!
Just when "everything looks black", though, I get a really positive
comment...just one!! That one is all I need to put wind back into my sails
and put me back on course. After all, if those unsubs were doing no good on
your list anyway, why not get them off from it, and replace them with
someone who wants to be there?? Yes, it is the principle of the thing, but...
Don't you let these dream stealers mess you up, girl!!
Though we try, there is NO WAY we can make everyone happy!
Anyway, perhaps another look at Napoleon Hill's THINK AND GROW RICH might
be what you need. Why are we both here in the first place??
I WILL make this business go!! If my coach, with a similar background as
mine, can do it, so can I!! All I have to do is keep at it!!
Patience...Persistence...Practice...they all equal Perfection!!
Just keep kicking yourself in the tail, Jan!! You WILL succeed!!
Oh yeah...we love ya!! Regards, Newton
Dear Jan, As you know, I claim to be your {{{{BIGGEST}}}} fan, so therefore, it
is my opinion that *every* issue of Rim is fantastic. However, issue number 219, has
to be in your "Top 5" of all time.
In my other life (younger and single)(since I've been married 28 years, it's a wonder
that I can remember another life ), I used to go to certain clubs and watch ladies dance.
Now, to me, it wasn't always the most pretty, or the most voluptuous, lady that was the
best dancer, but the ones that made eye contact and made me feel that she was dancing just for me.
Now, what does any of this have to do with issue 219 of Rim Digest? I'm going to tell you.
The articles in issue 219 were all written to me! That's how I felt as I was reading them.
Lee Benson started it off with a great article, and then, of course, the Featured Article by my Favorite Web
Authoress, was Fan-tastic. Then you follow these aticles with "What about the Hype? by Kathy
Tremblay", WOW, what a finish.
What can I say, Jan, "You did good!"
Your online friend and admirer, YBF, Jimmie
Thank you for offering this opportunity. I am really enjoying Rim Digest.
Sincerely, Cathy
Hi Jan, After I stopped laughing, I copied your article "Why did you reject my ad or
article?" and will use it next week. Thanks for once again capturing the essence of
the life of an internet publisher *G*. Dave
Your article re rejecting an article/ad was hysterical! Your mail must be quite
something at times! Sam
As usual, my friend, I just read two great back-to-back issues of Rim. This
was "One of Those Weeks" - had no time to read the favorites, but Rim waited
for me. Those of us who publish know ALMOST what you go through. My "week"
begins Wednesday evening after my Dream-Builder issue goes out... I worry
and fuss over how it is read and WHETHER it is read. Eventually, I get on
to the business of finishing NEXT week's issue. I sweat and complain, and
worry, and write, and rewrite, and YES - EDIT ADS... and generally live in
stress. I put out a weekly. Thank God I don't publish 3 issues a week, cuz
frankly, my friend, I don't know where you get the stamina! (I'm glad you
do, though !)
Your friend, colleague, FAN Les
Hi Jan Your issue 221 gave me a smile - thanks - sounds like you've been having a
"bad hair day" - never mind, this time next year it'll all be sorted out.
Been having a few trubs myself - got an own-product website, that I'm trying
to set up, and fortunately I have a friend who is an expert on web site
design - except - turns up now and again, does something, doesn't tell me
what he's doing, or done, and then exits stage left - so - at the moment
I've got half a web site, trying to work out how to edit it, put in an
autoresponder, and a few other things - invented a few new curse words while
trying.
On the other hand here is a prospective advertiser, when I get the web site
sorted out, could you give me a few details on what you expect from an
advertiser, format etc - and how do I pay -- familar with the internet but
not internet biz - any advice welcome.
Keep up the good work - enjoy your articles, Cheers Joe
Jan, I hope you read this personally.* My reason have nothing to do about the
quality of information I receive from you. It has to do with my inability to focus it seems on the thing I want
to do most... make a full time living online.
I have found myself subscribed to too many safelists, too many ezines, etc.
I am constantly cleaning out my inbox on my personal and Yahoo junk mail
accounts. In other words, I find myself in the few hours I have available
to market on the net, involved with these non-profit activities.
It seems I do this to myself over and over again. I start to promote an
exclusive eBook and before I know it I'm subscribed all over again to a
myriad assortment of "stuff." So, I am deleting everything that in the last
six months has caused me to lose focus.
Heck, I might write an article on this. If I do I'll run it past you.
Keep up the good work! Terry H
Jan :-) People love to read your magazine because you let your"human uniqueness"
color every page! You're the only one in the biz who ever tells people about server
problems, etc. So... we know you are "one of us!"
Keep up the good work. Marilyn
Dear Jan, Thanks for your input and YOUR great ezine which I have been reading
for over a year now. Alison
Hello Jan: You are a sweetheart not a marketing warrioress. Norm
I really like you and your ezine; it's honest and sincere. Charles
Hi Jan, Just a quick note to thank you for printing my "What about the HYPE" article,
and for publishing a really nice ezine. I had some nice comments about the article,
as well as a few requests for information, and I owe it all to you.
It shows a dedicated readership - and a friendly readership!
Glad to be a part of it. I'll be away for a week, but look forward to seeing Rim
Digest in my e-box again when I return! Cheers! Kathy PS: I'll definitely be advertising with you again soon! :)
Kath
Dear Jan, "People love to read your magazine because you let your
"human uniqueness" color every page!"
When I read the above line in a feedback letter in Rim recently, it just touched my spirit.
I knew that that was the true essence to Jan Tallents's success. At least, IMHO.
True, you work very hard, especially at doing and saying the right thing.
However, if no one responded, either by buying your products, services, or reading and supporting Rim Digest, would hard work alone
be enough. I don't think so. It's the "human uniqueness" that does it.
"Human uniqueness". I like that. It says alot. It says it all. IMHO.
Your {{{{BIGGEST}}}} Fan, Jimmie
Your digest has been helpful for me, but I am pulling some of my subscriptions off of
my personal email account. You will probably find me subscribed under hotmail account.
As a matter of fact, you can subscribe me at xyz123@hotmail.com if you want.
That will save me having to signup separately.&nbap; (Solos are okay... if I paid for a solo, I'd want someone to read
it!) Thanks, Joan
Here is the one that really got us all TALKING! (ok, me screaming!!!!)
Unknown to me, after I let my old domain name expire, someone bought it up and is hosting
a PORN SITE on it, GRRRRRRRRRR! Here is the message I got from a brand new subscriber who got
THAT as her introduction TO ME!
I just subscribed to your ezine "Rim Digest" and downloaded your free e-book "Marketing Warrioress Tips".
I can't imagine you promoting adult/sex sites, but that is exactly what I found when I
clicked on business opportunities on the articles page. Has one of us been invaded by
some Scum?
Please reply. Thank you in advance, Mary Lou
This spurred an emergency message to my entire subscriber base for both Rim Digest and my Newbies
Discussion list! To see the message I sent out and the wonderful support and feedback I got from
my beloved subscribers, click to this page: Porn Link !
Hi, Judy here ...I am a fairly new rimmer but I love your ezine and it has been very
helpful at different times. I hate to see some one do this kind of thing to some
one out of spite or any other reason. I hope you get it fixed soon and with as
little stress as possible. Thanks for being a friend on the web. Bye Judy B
Hi Jan, Thank God for you and Rim Digest. On top of being a Monday I woke up
this morning with a pounding sinus headache. Then when I opened my mail it seemed
like the spammers had gone on a frenzy during the night, but lo and behold there was my
favorite ezine, Rim Digest waiting to be opened and devoured.
Terrific articles in today's issue and your feedback always brings a smile to my face (well almost :-).
Thank you. Your first #1 fan. Sharon
Great publication today - really enjoyable. As for the porn link, what a crummy
thing to do but it's not your fault. No way can you control the devious habits of
those who think they are getting away with something. Pretty stupid, among other things.
Sam K.
Thank you ALL for your support and feedback!
We WILL succeed, one person, one group, one day at a time!
Sincerely,
Jan T-D
